Google is upgrading its Gemini AI with a focus on personalisation and privacy. The company is introducing two new features: "Personal Context", which remembers past conversations for more tailored responses, and an optional "Temporary Chat" mode for one-off interactions that leave no data trace.

The new feature, "Personal Context", is designed to make Gemini more collaborative by remembering your past conversations. With this mode enabled, Gemini can use information from previous chats to provide more tailored responses and suggestions. For example, if you've discussed Japanese culture or a specific comic-book character, the AI might proactively offer related suggestions in future conversations. This feature is the default setting, but users can easily manage their privacy by disabling the memory function or deleting past conversations in the Gemini Apps Activity menu. Personal Context is currently rolling out in certain countries on the Gemini 2.5 Pro tier, with wider availability on other tiers expected soon.

For users prioritising privacy, Gemini now includes a new "Temporary Chat" option. This mode allows for one-off interactions that are not saved to your chat history or used to personalise future conversations. Google will not use these chats to train its AI models, and the conversations are automatically deleted after 72 hours.
