Amitabh Bachchan Opens Up About Struggle With Ageing
Reflecting on his lifestyle, Bachchan wrote that going to bed early and rising early was no longer just a proverb but a necessity.
As Amitabh Bachchan inches closer to 83, retirement is nowhere on his mind. The megastar continues to captivate audiences with his magnetic presence, both on and off screen. With a fan base spanning generations, he remains one of the most celebrated and enduring icons in Indian cinema. Yet, in a recent blog post, Bachchan candidly admitted that ageing has brought new challenges, turning even the simplest of daily tasks into hurdles that demand extra care.
The actor revealed that despite his determination to stay young at heart, old age has begun to catch up with him. He shared that putting on trousers—once a mindless routine—has now become a careful exercise, as doctors have advised him to sit while dressing to avoid losing balance. At first, he said he laughed at the advice, but experience soon proved how necessary it was. Bachchan also disclosed that handlebars have been installed throughout his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, to ensure safety.
Reflecting on his lifestyle, Bachchan wrote that going to bed early and rising early was no longer just a proverb but a necessity. With age, he noted, the body gradually loses balance, making it essential to consciously work on maintaining strength and stability. To counter this, the actor follows a disciplined routine of medication, light yoga, pranayama, and regular workouts. He admitted, however, that rebuilding old habits becomes harder with age, so consistency is the only way forward.
Speaking more broadly about ageing, Bachchan addressed his readers directly. He acknowledged that while some may smile or laugh at the struggles of the elderly, time eventually spares no one. People may resist it for a while, he reflected, but in the end, age always wins, a loss he believes is worth accepting with grace.
On the professional front, Bachchan was last seen in Nag Ashwin’s "Kalki 2898 AD" (2024) and made a cameo appearance in Rajinikanth’s "Vettaiyan". He will next be seen in Ribhu Dasgupta’s 'Section 84', alongside Diana Penty, Nimrat Kaur, and Abhishek Banerjee.
