OpenAI Reportedly Working On X-Like Social Media Network

ChatGPT maker OpenAI is reportedly working on its own X-like social media network. The Verge, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, reported that there is an internal prototype focused on ChatGPT's image generation that has a social feed. It is worth noting that the project is still in the early stages.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been privately asking outsiders for feedback about the project, the report added. It is also unclear whether OpenAI intends to unveil the social network as a standalone app or if it plans to integrate it within the ChatGPT platform. Meanwhile, the company has not given any official comment on this matter. With the move, OpenAI will be in direct competition with Elon Musk’s X and various platforms of Meta.

The development may also escalate tensions between OpenAI's Sam Altman and billionaire Elon Musk, an OpenAI co-founder who left the startup in 2018. An investor consortium, spearheaded by Musk, made an offer in February for the control of OpenAI. However, Sam Altman rejected the $97.4 billion bid.
