Luka Modric Becomes Swansea City Co-Owner
The move is considered to be Modric's first into the world of football ownership.
Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has acquired a minority stake in Swansea City. As per the official announcement, the 39-year-old Ballon d’Or winner has joined the club as an investor and co-owner. While the amount invested by Modric was not revealed, the club said that he will "play a key role in helping the club garner global attention and progress both on and off the pitch."
The move is believed to be Modric's first into the world of football ownership. “This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level. Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club," said the midfielder in a statement. Modric has reportedly joined Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Jason Cohen among the ownership group.
According to a BBC report, the club has marked a pre-tax loss of £15.2m in the latest financial year. Swansea City reported a turnover of £21.5m for the year ending 30 June, 2024. Meanwhile, Modric's investment in a club mirrors recent decisions by his teammates Kylian Mbappe, who invested in Ligue 2 outfit Caen, and Vinicius Junior, who invested in Portuguese club FC Alverca.
